UNIVERSALLY SPEAKING
So you’ve done the Universally Speaking training course all about communicating science to the public. Here you’ll find helpful reminders, digital downloads and a place to drop off your presentation videos for feedback! Work through the list below every time you create a new talk.
WHY
Why do you want to communicate what’s in your talk?
WHAT
What do you want to talk about? Have just a few key messages.
WRITE
Write your talk from zero minutes up. Don’t try and fit an hour of talk in ten minutes.
JAR-GONE
Look back through and highlight all the jargon.
RE-WRITE
Re-write your talk and remove all the jargon. Make sure it comes in on time and that it all adds to your key message.
BULLET POINT
Create a bullet point script of the things you want to say. If they’re just bullet points, it will come across less rehearsed.
FILM YOURSELF
Film yourself presenting your talk. Use the digital downloads to give yourself feedback and ask others to as well.
DROP OFF
Drop off the video of you speaking below. Make sure you put your NAME and TRAINING LOCATION as the file name.
“Sometimes the most important question isn’t HOW we communicate science but WHY.”
